Therapeutic Orientation

Lex knows that life can often be painful and frightening in a changing and uncertain world. They respect the natural existential turbulence that arises in each unique stage of life. In the light of that often-heavy backdrop, Lex believes that your life is precious and irreplaceable. Their therapeutic orientation stems from a conviction that, while therapy is a partnership between therapist and client, you are the expert on your own life. They are passionate about creating an emotionally safe space where you can develop deeper intimacy with yourself, learn to embrace your wholeness, leverage your own inherent wisdom, and then choose your path forward from a place of empowerment. They are eager to walk with you into a life of vibrance, self-compassion, and rich meaning.

Interested in therapy for your child?

When working specifically with children, Lex uses Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). Play is a child’s first language. Children do not express themselves with words the way adults do. Accordingly, Lex uses CCPT to create a relationally nurturing environment where children can use play to communicate their emotions and needs on their own terms. Data shows that this allows them to develop self-respect and learn that their feelings are acceptable. It also empowers them to express their feelings responsibly, develop skills for creative problem solving, and learn how to make and take responsibility for their own choices.

Lex is currently accepting clients in person at the Fort Worth location and for telehealth appointments and can be reached at lvriend@DTAcare.com.
